A man from Pike County is facing felony charges after allegedly firing a gun in the direction of a Kentucky State Police Trooper.

Charles Keith Wallace, age 30 of Stratton Fork, Canada, was arrested on June 19th near his residence, court documents say.

According to those court documents, Kentucky State Police responded to a domestic violence complaint at Wallace’s residence. During which, Wallace is said to have been intoxicated and causing property damage. Wallace was also reported to have been firing a weapon into the mountainside.

A witness is said to have called Kentucky State Police Post 9 in Pikeville and reported that Wallace was “crouched down in a kneeling tactical position” with a rifle while waiting for the responding trooper to arrive.

That same trooper reported in an arrest citation that upon arriving, he heard a gunshot and proceeded to retreat towards cover. The witness who contacted post 9 reported that Wallace had fired his gun in the direction of the trooper.

After a foot pursuit, Wallace eventually charged towards the trooper while threatening to kill him. The trooper then deployed his Taser stun gun.

According to the citation, Wallace and the trooper proceeded to fight, with Wallace kicking the trooper before being brought under control and arrested.

Wallace was charges with first-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer, third-degree assault of a police officer, resisting arrest, menacing, and third-degree terroristic threatening. He was then lodged in the Pike County Detention Center and was released later that day after posting a $10,000 cash bond. Wallace is due back in court on Friday.
