A State of Emergency has been declared for the city of Hazard.

Acting City Manager Tony Eversole declared a State of Emergency due to the water shortage inside and outside of the city.

There have been multiple waterline breaks which lead to loss of water storage capacity due to the snow we saw this past week.

As of Wednesday night, Perry County had 400 customers out of the 10,000 on the system still without water. These customers are mainly in the Ary, Bulan, Dwarf, Pine Valley, and Rowdy communities. The tank that supplies those areas had drained over the past several days, starting before Christmas, and was exacerbated by the cold weather.

After repairs by city employees, all leaks have been repaired and the tank in Bulan is refilling. The city water plant is currently running at capacity to keep tanks filled.

For those needing a shower during normal work hours, contact the Hazard Police Department, as they are facilitating showers at the Hazard Pavilion.

More water is also being taken to Robinson Elementary at 10:00 a.m. Friday.
