Kentucky’s Vaccine Supply to Increase by Additional 5%

On Tuesday, February 2nd, the state of Kentucky reported 2,443 new cases of COVID-19. This makes a total of 366,938 reported cases of COVID-19 in the commonwealth. 286,537 of those cases have been officially lab confirmed whereas the remaining 80,401 cases are probable.

This makes a total of 3,812 Kentuckians lost to the virus; though 334 of those are probable and only 3,478 have been officially lab confirmed.

A total of 4,083,889 COVID-19 test have been administered in Kentucky. 3,626,864 were PCR Test, 108,556 were serology test, and 348,469 were antigen test. The positivity rate currently stands at 8.83%.

Currently 1,335 Kentuckians are hospitalized due COVID-19 related symptoms. With 373 in the ICU and 172 on a ventilator.

Top counties with the most positive cases Tuesday were: Jefferson, Boone, Fayette, Kenton and Madison. Each of these counties reported 80 or more new cases; Jefferson County alone reported 349.

On a positive note, at least 43,714 Kentuckians have recovered from the virus. The Governor’s office also reports that 345,800 COVID-19 vaccine doses have been received in Kentucky and 370,020 doses have been administered, statewide. Of the 120,900 doses received, 60,805 have been administered to long-term care facility residents and staff.

On Tuesday, Gov. Andy Beshear announced the federal COVID-19 team will increase Kentucky’s vaccine supply by an additional 5%. In total, the state’s supply will increase by 22% the week of Feb. 8 compared with the week of Jan. 25.

The Governor also noted Tuesday was the fifth day in a row that the state’s COVID-19 positivity rate has stayed under 9%.
