A man out of Huntington is now in jail after he allegedly stabbed a man and kidnapped a woman and child out of Mingo County. He then crashed that car head-on into another vehicle in Charleston.

36-year-old Bruce Allen Hargis is accused of stabbing Shane Nelson three times at a home in Digness this past Saturday. He then turned the knife towards Nelson’s girlfriend and told her to drive him to Charleston or that he would stab her as well.

After making it to Charelston with her 7-month-old in the backseat, the woman stopped to get gas, but while she was out of the vehicle, Hargis allegedly got into the driver’s seat and took off with the baby still in the backseat.

Police spotted Hargis travelling along MacCorkle Avenue, where they began their pursuit. Police say Hargis then turned onto 35th street headed in the wrong direction. It was at this point that Hargis drove head-on into another vehicle.

Hargis was transported to the hospital and has been listed in stable condition. The baby was also taken to the hospital for a minor head wound.

Hargis has been charged with fleeing, DUI, DUI with a minor, DUI causing injury, along with multiple traffic violations in Kanawha County. In Mingo County, Hargis has been charged with kidnapping, armed robbery, and malicious wounding. He is being held in the South Central Regional Jail on a $50k cash bond.
