Officials from the Center of Disease Control state since late 2015, over a 180 people, identified as intravenous drug users, have been diagnosed within Austin, Indiana, and Hazard and other parts of Eastern Kentucky with HIV and that other areas could possibly be looking for an outbreak very similar. A director from the Kentucky River District Health Department says Indiana and Hazard have a lot of people traveling between each other, with demographics that are very similar. According to an article from WYMT, in a list that depicts the definitive ranking of Eastern Kentucky Counties and their national rankings for vulnerability to the rapid spread of HIV and Hepatitis C among people who inject drugs, Wolfe County ranks #1 and Floyd County ranks #10.
