A man out of Pikeville is now in jail after officials say he ran from the authorities in West Virginia, then struck a cyclist on his way home.
This past Friday night at around 10:00 PM, 62-year-old Nicholas Wright became involved in a pursuit with the Logan Police, the Mingo County Sheriff’s Office, and the West Virginia State Police. The officers pursued Wright until they reached the Meta exit on RT 119. The officers then notified Pikeville Police of his tag number.
Officers were familiar with Wright and were waiting on him when he pulled into the Myers Tower parking lot at a high rate of speed. He then aggressively proceeded to the parking area for Ridge Cliff Apartments, where he lives.
Once officers made contact with Wright, he admitted to running from police in West Virginia. Shortly after, officials learned of a hit-and-run involving a cyclist on Hambley Boulevard. The cyclist was able to provide police with a description of the vehicle, which matched Wright’s vehicle. Officers also noticed damage on Wright’s vehicle that was consistent with the caller’s claim.
Wright admitted to the officers that he did hit a bicycle, but did not stop because he needed to get home.
He now faces felony charges of assault in the second degree and leaving the scene of an accident.
