A Wise County Sheriff’s Deputy is being credited with rescuing a woman from an apartment fire on Monday morning.

Deputy Nathaniel Baker responded to a disturbance call at the Inman Village Apartments, just before 6:30 AM Monday morning.

Upon his arrival, the deputy noticed smoke coming from the door of one of the apartments. The deputy attempted to wake the occupants but no one answered him. The Deputy then forced his way into the apartment, which was filled with smoke and flames. He found a woman in the living room and managed to remove her from the building.

Firefighters from the Appalachia Fire Department extinguished the fire and provided medical attention to the woman.

The cause of the fire has yet to be revealed at this time.
