Three dead in wreck near Carter Caves

According to Carter County Coroner William Waddell, a mother, father, and their 4-year-old son died in an accident that ended with a vehicle on its top in a creek over the weekend.

The accident occurred close to Carter Caves State Resort Park.

The family planned to camp with friends overnight at Carter Caves before returning home to Beaver Creek, Ohio following their vacation in Virginia Beach, according to the coroner.

According to the coroner, the father, 41, who was driving, missed the entry to the state resort area and crashed into a creek while attempting to back up. Officials said the car landed on its top in the creek.

The crash killed the father, mother, and their four-year-old kid.

The couple’s other son, an 11-year-old boy, was able to exit the vehicle and request help from a park ranger.

According to the coroner, the 11-year-old suffered minor injuries.

Everyone in the vehicle was wearing seat belts at the time of the collision according to authorities.

All bodies have been taken to the medical examiner’s office in Frankfort. At this time, no additional information has been disclosed.
