After reportedly fleeing from a Kentucky State Police officer who attempted to stop him in Floyd County, a Pike County man was arrested on many offenses.
According to Trooper Dalton Kidd’s arrest citation, he saw a 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche truck swerving “all over the roadway” while patrolling on U.S. 23 at around 4 p.m. on June 10 and discovered the vehicle had a canceled registration plate. When Kidd activated his lights, the motorist, Christopher P. May, 44, of East Shelbiana Road, Pikeville, began to flee, according to Kidd.
According to the citation, May ran a red light at Allen, nearly causing an accident. May allegedly ran other cars off the road throughout the chase, reaching speeds of more than 90 mph, according to the citation. The citation stated that when May took the ramp to Ky. 321, he passed four cars on the shoulder, forcing them to swerve into the opposite lane of travel, endangering the lives of the occupants by driving them into oncoming traffic.
May’s vehicle ultimately came to a halt when he ran out of gas, according to the citation. Kidd claimed that when he first spoke with May, he noticed that he was inebriated and couldn’t perform field sobriety tests.
May also had seven current warrants, according to the citation. May was lodged in the Floyd County Jail on charges of DUI, first-degree fleeing or evading police (motor vehicle), driving on a suspended license and traffic charges.
