A man is said to have been let off with a warning after he allegedly left his dog inside of a hot car while he was visiting Kings’ Island.
An officer was called to the scene by park security. Reports indicated the officer made his arrival around 6:00 PM.
The officer wrote in his report that he spotted a white dog who was panting aggressively inside of the vehicle. According to the officer, one of the vehicle’s windows was open by about three inches. Park security is said to have used a thermal scanner to determine the temperature inside of the vehicle. The readings showed temperatures between 1117 and 118 degrees, according to the officer.
The officer was informed by park security of a previous altercation involving the dog’s owner that had occurred around three hours prior to the officer’s arrival. At around 3:00 PM that same day, park security noticed the dog sitting inside the locked vehicle for the first time. Temperatures within the vehicle registered between 120 and 125 degrees at the time. The vehicle was opened and the dog was taken to the park’s first aid center. Security left a note on the car explaining where the dog had been taken to.
The owner arrived at the first aid center afterwards and took his dog.
This being the second incident of the day, the owner again walked out to his vehicle as officers were on the scene.
The officer explained to the man that it was 95 degrees outside and that he could not leave his dog inside of his car while he was inside of Kings’ Island. And because he had already left his dog twice that same day, park authorities informed the man he would not be welcomed back into the park for the remainder of the day.
The officers left, informing the man that if they were called back to the park for the same reason, he would be charged with animal cruelty.
The owner told officials he understood and is said to have left without any further incidents.
