The preliminary hearing was canceled for the man accused of murdering three police officers last month in Floyd County. The grand jury is said to have issued an indictment beforehand.

49-year-old Lance Storz, of Allen, was initially scheduled to appear in court for the hearing, but a judge announced that was unnecessary, as the grand jury had already issued a 20-count indictment.

Storz stands accused of shooting deputies as they approached his home in an attempt to take him into custody in connection with a domestic violence case. In the new indictment, Storz now stands charged with three-counts of murder of a police officer, six-counts of the attempted murder of a police officer, seven-counts of wanton endangerment, two counts of assault of a police officer, one-count of assault of a service animal, and one-count of assault in the 4th-degree.

The charges against Storz meet the criteria for the death penalty if he is convicted.

Storz will be arraigned on the indictment at 10:30 AM on Tuesday.
