Last night at around 9:00 PM, the City of Martin announced a mandatory evacuation for its citizens living in flood-prone homes.
In the announcement, Mayor Sam Howell and the fire department say that rescuers are currently spread thin, adding that conditions will only become more dangerous as the night goes on.
Residents living on Dinwood Road, Dingus Bottom Road, the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home area, Brawley Street, and Crackerbottom Road were specifically informed to leave “NOW!” and encourages anyone who knows people living in these areas to inform them of the evacuation notice.
Officials with the City of Martin’s Fire Department gave this advice:
“If you come upon a flooded area, please DO NOT attempt to cross it. TURN AROUND, DON’T DROWN.”
Martin is one of several Eastern Kentucky locations who have announced evacuations.
