An update from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office:

We have received numerous reports from the city and county about stolen bicycles. Due to mass production, it can be difficult to identify your bicycle without proper documentation. Most might be unaware that each bike has a stamped serial number. These numbers are under the pedal area. 

To help retrieve your bike, if stolen, it is important to document this information. Also keep records of any identifiers; such as scratches, additional stickers, and so on.
