Former Letcher County Deputy Sheriff, 36 year old Ben Fields from Whitesburg, has been indicted on several felony charges, according to Attorney General Daniel Cameron.

Fields was charged with two counts of third degree rape. Two counts of third degree sodomy, three counts of tampering with a prisoner monitoring device and one count of second degree perjury.

According to a news release, the indictment states that from July 2021 through January 2022, Fields tampered with a prisoner’s monitoring device and knew that person was in custody under house arrest. He did this during his time as deputy sheriff, and/or as an employee of a company that was under contract with the Letcher County Jail at the time.

The indictment also alleges that Fields committed perjury by submitting a false statement in a criminal complaint.
