Officers with the Pikeville Police Department were called to a gas station on Bypass Road, at around 5:30 AM, Sunday morning.
A woman reported her 2022 Jeep Compass was stolen while she had been inside of the store.
After taking the time to review security footage and speaking to several witnesses, police identified their suspect in the case as 32-year-old Charles Scott, of Pikeville.
Later that same day, officers responded to a call on Fife Fork, concerning an intoxicated man who was causing a disturbance.
After arriving at the scene, the stolen jeep was immediately located. Witnesses informed officers that the suspect had jumped into a kudzu patch after seeing that the police were coming.
Officers found Scott in the kudzu patch. After a long chase through the kudzu and some neighboring yards, along with firing a taser three times, Scott was finally arrested.
He currently stands charged with theft, fleeing police, and several other charges.
