A man out of Johnson County is now in jail after he allegedly led police on a chase through several counties- at speeds exceeding 100 mph.

Deputies with the Johnson County Sheriff’s Apartment attempted to make a traffic stop on a motorcycle being driven by 40-year-old William Hicks, of Sitka, for having no visible license plate.

A chase began, with police claiming that Hicks went into Magoffin County before heading back towards Paintsville and onto US 23 before heading into Floyd County. Hicks is said to have made a U-turn at this point, then he continued north into Lawrence County.

According to police, Hicks is said to have reached speeds of up to 133 mph whale weaving in and out of traffic, and even onto the shoulder of the road, with no regard to other drivers.

Hicks came to a stop eventually and was placed under arrest. Police allegedly found meth and suboxone in his motorcycle. Additionally, officers discovered there was a warrant out for his arrest for fleeing on a motorcycle last year.

Hicks is being held in the Big Sandy Detention Center, in Paintsville. He faces charges of fleeing police wanton endangerment, and several other charges.
