Watts Caney Fire Department Officials have announced that a wildfire stretching more than 1000-acres has been burning in Breathitt County for three days.

Kentucky Division of Forestry officials are currently working to contain the fire. Kentucky Division of Forestry ranger Thomas Smith said the conditions on Wednesday were conducive to the wildfire, making it easier for the wildfire to spread and harder for crews to contain.

Residents living along Highway 1278 have said they spent all Tuesday night trying to prevent the fire from reaching their homes.

Breathitt County resident Betty Noble said the fire department and 911 were called and first responders did their very best to help.

Although the Kentucky Division of Forestry was working all over Breathitt County to ensure the fire was controlled, workers have said the fires could pick back up if the wind picks up.
