An update form the City of London Police Department:
An alert motorist helped the London Police Department take a suspected drunk driver off the highway Friday afternoon.
Timothy W. Gray, 44, of Hopper Creek Road, London, was arrested by London Police Sgt. Drew Jackson at 3:58 p.m. at the intersection of Barbourville Street and South Main Street. He was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, careless driving and failure to wear a seat belt.
According to Sgt. Jackson’s report, a caller told Laurel Dispatch that he was following a truck on Ky. 229 heading towards London, and that the truck had hit several mailboxes and was being driven recklessly.
Officers observed the suspect vehicle on Barbourville Street and saw it cross the centerline into the oncoming lane of travel. They conducted a traffic stop and asked Gray to exit his vehicle. Gray was unsteady on his feet, his speech was slurred and officers could smell the odor of alcohol. There also was damage to the right side of the pickup.
Gray failed several field sobriety tests and was arrested and taken to the Laurel County Correctional Center.
