An update from the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office:
On February 5, 2023 at approximately 5:47 pm Deputy Derek Dennis and Jerry Meadows conducted the traffic stop on Kentucky Highway 833 after observing the vehicle’s license plate was expired in 2021.
Once making contact with the male driver the Deputies learned that his operator’s license was suspended and he had an active arrest warrant. The driver was also a person of interest in an ongoing drug investigation by the Sheriff’s Office. Deputies gained consent to search the vehicle. The search resulted in a drug paraphernalia item, a set of digital scales, 3 bags of a crystal substance and $700.00 in cash being located and seized. One of these bags had an approximately weight of 53.0 grams which was in a solid crystal rock form. The two other bags had an approximate weight of 3.5 grams totaling 56.5 grams for all three bags. These bags were identified as being methamphetamine using the Sheriff’s Office Tru-Narc Narcotic Analysis Equipment.
Deputy Dennis charged and arrested Jason S. Dennis of Monticello, Ky. for no registration plate, no registration receipt, operating on a suspended operator’s license, trafficking in a controlled substance-1st degree (greater than or equal to 2 grams of methamphetamine) and possession of drug paraphernalia. Dennis was also arrested on a Wayne County District Court Warrant of Arrest for failure to appear for a Contempt Hearing.
