Wayne County Man Arrested On Animal Cruelty Charge Following Investigation

An update from the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office:

 

According to Wayne County Sheriff Tim Catron an investigation has resulted in a Monticello man being arrested on a cruelty to an animal charge.

 

The investigation into the incident started on February 12, 2023 when Deputy Allen Cash was notified by the Monticello Fire Department after they were called to extinguish a fire in the Morris Hill area. After extinguishing the fire, Fire Department personnel found the remains of a dog laying in a burnt cardboard box. Deputy Cash obtained video footage from a surveillance camera which revealed a male suspect backing a pickup truck in next to a wood line. The male subject then took a cardboard box out of the bed of the truck placing it on the ground then taking a gas can pouring contents from the can onto the box and setting it on fire. The male then drove off from the area. The male was unknown to Deputy Cash but through his investigation he was able to identify the male suspect.

 

On February 16, 2023, Deputy Cash located the male suspect on Morris Hill Road. Deputy Cash then arrested Joshua Brummett of Monticello, Ky. for cruelty to animals-2nd degree and for no operator’s license.  

 

Brummett was lodged in the Wayne County Detention Center.

 

The Wayne County Sheriff Office also arrested Quincy J. Rains of Monticello, Ky. for assault-4th degree (domestic violence).

 

Rains was lodged in the Wayne County Detention Center.
