Ruby Francis Reynolds Short, age 92, of Paintsville, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, July 13, 2023 at Pikeville Medical Center.

Ruby was born May 20, 1931 in Barnetts Creek, Johnson County, Kentucky, daughter of the late Eugene Reynolds and Rachel Rowland Reynolds. In addition to her parents, Ruby was preceded in death by her only sibling, Betty Reynolds Lemaster and her beloved husband, Chester Short. Ruby and Chester were married on October 29, 1960. Ruby and Chester had no children of their own, but they enjoyed spending time with their nieces and nephews when the time was available.

She is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, many friends, neighbors, co-workers, and in-laws.

Ruby retired from the State of Kentucky and was a very competent, loyal, and well-respected employee of the Vocational Rehabilitation Field Services. Ruby began her employment with them on September 6, 1955 and retired on October 31, 1995. Her career spanned over 40 years. She has remained good friends with many of the people she worked with. Ruby will be missed by her Friends! Ruby was always a very independent woman and was known to speak her mind.

Ruby was an avid reader, loved quilts and other crafts. She loved to shop! One of her favorite things to do was sit on the front porch of her home on Tulip Street.

Ruby and Chester were members of Paintsville Church of Christ. After Chester’s passing, Ruby remained steadfast and faithfully continued going to church.

Funeral services will be conducted 1:30 p.m. Sunday, July 23, 2023 at Paintsville Church of Christ with Johnnie Lemaster officiating. Burial will follow at Johnson County Memorial Cemetery, Staffordsville, Kentucky. Friends may visit the Paintsville Church of Christ Sunday, July 23, 2023 from 12:30 p.m. until time of service at 1:30 p.m.
