
A Pike County man was arrested and charged with attempted assault following a shooting in Pikeville.
The Pikeville Police Department responded to a call Yesterday concerning a man on the bypass in Pikeville who had been shot. The wounded man, Chris Staton, told police that he got into an altercation with Timothy Dale Newsome of Virgie and Newsom pulled out a gun and shot him.
Staton told police that during his fight with Newsom, he was grazed in the head when Newsom fired the gun. Newsom then fled the scene.
During the investigation, Police located Newsom and also the gun. According to investigators, Staton didn’t suffer from any gunshot wounds. Instead, he was hit in the head during his fight with Newsom and the gun discharged.
Newsome told Police that he felt threatened by Staton, who allegedly tried to take Newsome’s gun which led Newsome to hit Staton in the head.
Newsom was placed in the Pike County Detention Center and charged with attempted assault.
