On Friday, Rep. Hal Rogers announced the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) is moving forward with a plan to bring a Federal Correctional Institution and Federal Prison Camp to Letcher County. The site would be located in the Roxana community. The proposal started in 2006 after Congress directed the BOP to start different investigations leading to the development of the facility in Southeast Kentucky. Since then, more than $500 million has been secured for the project.
