A Lee County man was arrested on several charges after the Floyd County Sheriff’s Department said he was caught stealing telephone line at Garrett. According to an arrest citation written by Deputy Kris Hall, on Feb. 27, he responded to a report of cable theft at Garrett. Upon arrival, the citation said, Hall located Gary Conley, 75, of Vets Talcum Road, Tallega, who was with a Toyota truck which was parked on the side of Ky. 80. The truck, Hall wrote, had a bed full of cut cable. AT&T personnel, the citation said, told the deputy they had just replaced the line 20 minutes before Conley had cut it again, and the cut caused a service interruption for approximately 20 homes and businesses. Conley was lodged in the Floyd County Detention Center on charges of theft ($1,000 to $10,000), possession of burglary tools and interfering with communications. Court records show Conley was released from the jail Feb. 28 after Floyd District Judge Jimmy R. Marcum ordered he be held on his own recognizance. He is scheduled to be arraigned on March 13.
