A man arrested in Dickenson County last year for a string of auto thefts is now facing new charges, after being indicted for mailing threats to federal officials. Jonathan Reed Stiltner, 49, was arrested last May following a spree that saw three cars and an ATV stolen. He has been held in the Southwestern Regional Jail at Abingdon ever since. Now a federal indictment handed down on Thursday says he has been mailing threatening letters to federal officials from jail. The indictment alleges he sent a threat to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Abingdon in August, and similar letters to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Roanoake, the U.S. Marshall’s Service, and to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives in November. No hearings have yet been set in the new case.
