
Health professionals in Pike County are trying to spread awareness about mental health resources after a “concerning number” of suicides have been reported over the last month. According to Public Health Director Tammy Riley, eight people in the county died by suicide during the last 30 days, which she called a “mental health crisis.” “To put that number into perspective, Pike County had eight suicides in total in 2023 Professionals say mental health issues can impact any person, at any time, for any reason. So, the power of suicidal ideation must be met with the presence of specific resources to help people in the midst of crisis. By calling or texting 9-8-8, Kentuckians will be connected to a person who can make sure they are being heard by the right fit for their specific needs.
