Summer is here and while the kids are out of school, some parents and caregivers stress over the fact that there are those kids that only get a really decent meal during school, well breathe a little bit easier. The Floyd County school system will be providing a free breakfast and lunch meal to each child from the ages of one through eighteen Monday through Friday from June tenth until July 31st regardless of where they live or go to school. Now, there’s different ways that kids can get their meals, the staff will be coming around to different places Monday through Friday’s, and you can find a complete list of those places online at our website at Q ninety-Five FM dot net under the local news link, or students can come to their school site from eight am until ten am Monday through Friday for one free breakfast meal per day, per child and from eleven am until one pm for one free lunch for each child per day.

This past Saturday a lot of kids had a blast as they and their parents got together at Paintsville Lake for the annual Casting for Kids fishing event, which is funded by Shriners Children’s hospital. Shriner’s board member Jamie Collins stated that the goal each year is to raise 100,000 dollars for the Shriners hospital in Lexington.

A man from Floyd County was arrested on several charges recently after, police said, he led them on a vehicle pursuit that ended when he hit another vehicle. According to an arrest citation written by Trooper Billy Ball, on May 20, he was on patrol around Ivel when he saw a 1998 Ford Ranger pickup truck traveling at 62 mph in a 55-mph zone. Trooper Ball wrote in the report that the vehicle also merged into traffic without signaling. When Trooper Ball got behind the truck, the driver, who’s identified as Steven C. Castle, 40, of Frogtown Lane, Printer, signaled to make a left turn from U.S. 23 and failed to yield when the Trooper activated his lights and siren. Castle was caught and arrested and lodged in the Floyd County Detention Center.

Middlesboro Independent School officials said that 50-year-old Social Studies teacher Craig Callen was fired after the Claibourne County Sheriff’s Department arrested him after Kentucky State Police investigated a sexual abuse complaint. He is currently being held in the Claibourne County Detention Center.

Blood donors can enjoy a day at an amusement park if they donate blood today at select donor centers. People who give the gift of life to Kentucky Blood Center’s Pikeville, Somerset, or Tri-County locations will receive a one-day general admission ticket to Cincinnati’s Kings Island, good for any day this summer. Donors will also be entered into a drawing to win two tickets to see Taylor Swift live on Nov. 3 in Indianapolis and a $500 Visa gift card to help with travel. Donor centers are open both days from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
