FRANKFORT, KY – The Kentucky Public Service Commission has approved a $15.7 million recovery for Kentucky Power following a Franklin Circuit Court ruling. The order allows the company to collect funds previously denied in a 2023 rate case, through a temporary surcharge lasting 22 months. It comes as Kentucky Power also seeks a separate rate hike of nearly 15 percent for residential customers. The utility says the increase is needed to maintain services amid rising operational costs.

PRESTONSBURG, KY – Representatives from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, State Police and Floyd County Sheriff’s Office launched the High Five Rural Traffic Safety Project in Floyd County, aiming to boost seat belt use and prevent serious injuries. Over the next year, Floyd County will receive $10,000 each for law enforcement and education, targeting one of the state’s highest unbelted fatality rates. The initiative combines education and enforcement, with seat belt demonstrations and outreach at local schools, festivals, and events, reminding everyone that buckling up is the best defense on Kentucky roads.

JOHNSON COUNTY, KY – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 12 says road and maintenance projects are underway across Johnson County this fall. Crews will resurface KY 1428 between KY 40 and U.S. 23, patch asphalt on KY 580 and KY 3387, and continue tree-cutting along U.S. 23, KY 825, and KY 40 for better visibility. Most paving is expected to wrap up before winter, while routine maintenance will continue as weather allows. No bridge projects are scheduled but work with FEMA could bring flood repair funding soon.

FRANKFORT, KY – Governor Andy Beshear says more than 118 million dollars is going to counties to help Kentuckians move out of flood-prone areas. The buyout program will benefit around 600 homeowners in Floyd, Knott, Letcher, Perry, and Pike counties. The funding includes federal money from the Emergency Watershed Protection Program and state matching funds. Beshear says the goal is to keep families safe, support recovery, and help communities rebuild on higher ground.
