PIKE COUNTY, KY – A man from Pike County was arrested on charges related to a child sexual abuse material investigation, Kentucky State Police said.  Charles Michael Hopkins, 34, faces 20 counts of possessing matter portraying a minor over the age of 12 in a sexual performance, according to a KSP news release. Troopers said Hopkins was arrested Tuesday after an investigation involving KSP’s Electronic Crime Branch turned up sexually explicit images of juveniles online. Part of the investigation included a search inside a home in Virgie.

 

LETCHER COUNTY, KY – A Letcher County man is facing charges after deputies say they recovered thousands of dollars in stolen guitars and amps from a home in Letcher County. The sheriff’s office obtained a search warrant after spotting what appeared to be stolen property at the address. When they searched the property, they also found drug paraphernalia. Michael Brandon Mays, 28, of Whitesburg, was arrested and charged with receiving stolen property and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was taken to the Letcher County Jail.

 

PRESTONSBURG, KY – A Prestonsburg woman is facing child endangerment charges after police responded to a bomb threat at Adams Middle School. Authorities say the school was evacuated on October 27, and police searched the building before allowing students back inside. During the investigation, detectives found three young children alone at a home on Ky. 3, one of whom was a person of interest in the bomb threat case. Their mother, 34-year-old Stacy Brown, was reportedly away at a doctor’s appointment at the time.

 

RACELAND, KY – A fugitive wanted for kidnapping, assault, and disrupting public services has been arrested in Raceland. Police say Steven Overbee, 50, of Wurtland, who previously served time for complicity to commit murder, was found on Wurtland Ave. Officers from multiple departments served a fugitive warrant, arresting Overbee for out-of-state charges, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia possession. Another man, Timothy Farr, 59, was also arrested for driving on a DUI-suspended license and possession of drug paraphernalia. Both men are in the Greenup County Detention Facility.
