PAINTSVILLE, KY – A federal indictment has expanded charges against Jeremy Bryson, son of former Paintsville doctor Don Bryson, in an alleged Johnson County prescription drug scheme. Prosecutors say Jeremy ran a cash-based clinic, issuing opioid prescriptions using another physician’s DEA number, and bought a $67,000 Dodge Ram with the proceeds. He now faces nine felony counts, including illegal drug distribution and financial crimes. His father, Don Bryson, had already pleaded guilty to related charges and awaits sentencing. No new court date has been set for Jeremy Bryson.
PIKEVILLE, KY – A Pike County man, Charles Michael Hopkins, 34, of Virgie, has had his child pornography case moved to federal court. Authorities say Kentucky State Police received multiple tips from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, leading to Hopkins’ arrest on 20 counts. Police seized electronic devices from his home, and court records revealed he allegedly admitted to possessing and sharing images online. Hopkins denies producing any images but faces up to five years in prison if convicted.
MARTIN COUNTY, KY – A Paintsville woman working as a speech therapist at Eden Elementary in Martin County was arrested last week for allegedly being intoxicated at school. Officers say Leigh Ann Marquez admitted to drinking whiskey that morning and is also prescribed Xanax and Buspar. Police reported she exhibited serious signs of intoxication while supervising 12 children. Marquez was charged with alcohol intoxication and endangering the welfare of a minor, then released on a $500 bond. Her arraignment is scheduled for November 10.
PERRY COUNTY, KY – Perry County is moving forward with a new Robinson Elementary School. The district announced it has secured property for the school off Highway 80 near Elk Run. Robinson Elementary was destroyed in the July 2022 flood, forcing students to use the former A.B. Combs Elementary building. Superintendent Kent Campbell and Principal Jamie Fugate signed the paperwork, but a construction start date has not yet been set.
