Prestonsburg, Ky – A Floyd County man is facing charges after leading Kentucky State Police on a high-speed chase Tuesday along Route 850. Troopers say Jeffery Lumpkins of Hueysville was spotted driving a red SUV on the wrong side of the road and speeding at 78 in a 55 zone. He allegedly refused to stop, nearly hit another car, and was arrested on multiple charges, including fleeing police and wanton endangerment. Lumpkins was booked into the Floyd County Jail.

 

Martin County, Ky – A Lexington woman has been indicted in Martin County, accused of smuggling drugs into the federal prison by hiding them in her 10-year-old daughter’s pocket. Shakaree Carter, 35, faces charges including unlawful transaction with a minor and promoting contraband. Staff say Carter’s daughter passed Suboxone strips to inmate Anthony King during a visit in April. Carter was arrested Monday and is set for arraignment November 20 in Martin Circuit Court. If convicted, she faces up to 20 years in prison.

 

Inez, Ky – Officer Nathan Todd, a lifelong Martin County resident and graduate of the West Virginia State Police Academy, has joined the Martin County Schools Police Department as its third officer. Todd brings significant experience, including past service with the South Charleston Police, Boyd County Sheriff’s Department, and Prestonsburg City Police. He is also a certified Kentucky firefighter, an active volunteer fire department member, and is working toward EMT certification. Todd will primarily serve at Eden Elementary and Inez Elementary, and Chief Chris Kidd describes him as a valuable addition to the team.

 

Hazard, Ky – A woman was arrested Thursday morning after police say she pointed a gun at people in a Walmart parking lot. Officers responded around 10 a.m. to reports of the woman cursing at employees and arguing with people in a nearby vehicle. Witnesses told police she waved a gun out her window. Officers located the car, removed the woman without incident, and arrested her. She faces charges of disorderly conduct, wanton endangerment, and terroristic threatening based on witness statements and surveillance video.
