REGIONAL NEWS UPDATE DECEMBER 1ST, 2025

Pikeville, Ky – Special Judge Eddy Coleman has pushed the murder trial of M.K. McKinney back to May 11. Because of the delay, Judge Coleman cut McKinney’s bond from five million dollars to one million dollars in property and four hundred thousand dollars in cash. Coleman said the trial will run on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, with Wednesdays set aside for other cases on his docket, and he expects jury selection to take about two days. McKinney’s attorney, Steven Romines, told the court he will need two days for his defense, while Commonwealth’s Attorney Brent Turner said the trial will last at least three to possibly four weeks. The next pretrial conference is set for 10am on February 26th.

Carter County, Ky – A man is dead after a four-wheeler crash in Carter County, Kentucky. Olive Hill Police say it happened shortly before 2 p.m. Friday on Sutton Road near Carter Caves. Officers say the man was riding a four-wheeler when it crashed, and he died from his injuries at the scene. Kentucky State Police are handling the investigation and conducting a reconstruction of the crash.  The victim’s name has not been released, pending notification of family.
