Rowan County, Ky – A homicide investigation is underway in Rowan County after a shooting on Christmas Eve. Rowan County Coroner John Northcutt says Morehead 911 got a call around 5:30 p.m. about a man who had been shot. Deputies found a 39‑year‑old man dead in a driveway on Christy Creek Road. His name hasn’t been released, pending notification of family. Kentucky State Police Post 8 in Morehead is handling the investigation.
Perry County, Ky – Police have arrested a Perry County man after a drive‑by shooting at Perry Foods early Wednesday on KY 28. Deputy say shots were fired from an SUV, hitting the store three times, though no one was hurt. Authorities arrested 36‑year‑old Shannon Petram Abbaspour and charged him with first‑degree criminal mischief, public intoxication, and discharging a firearm across a public road. Surveillance video posted by the business on Facebook shows a vehicle stopping outside before the shots were fired.
Prestonsburg, Ky – A Prestonsburg man is facing multiple charges after police say he tried to drive through an active fire scene, then threatened and assaulted first responders. Fire crews were putting out a car fire Tuesday at the Speedway on North Lake Drive when 80‑year‑old Gary Beverly allegedly tried to drive through, threatening to run over a paramedic. Police say he became violent when officers intervened, dragging a detective with his car before crashing. Beverly was arrested and faces felony assault and wanton endangerment charges.
Salyersville, Ky – A Magoffin County man will stand trial in February on federal drug and gun charges. Prosecutors say 51‑year‑old Matthew Roger Owens was arrested in March after deputies got a tip he was headed to sell meth. When they stopped him at a gas station, officers found more than 100 grams of meth, nearly 2 grams of fentanyl, and pills hidden in a nylon case inside his clothing. Owens pleaded not guilty Monday, and his trial is set for February 9. If convicted, he faces up to 45 years in prison.
