Prestonsburg, Ky – A Pike County man pleaded not guilty Friday in connection to a 2024 crash that killed Magoffin County High School student Kayla Elam. A grand jury indicted Keith Anderson last month on charges including vehicular homicide, assault and DUI in the Floyd County crash that injured driver Kenny Auxier. Anderson remains in the Floyd County Detention Center. A bond hearing is set for Jan. 27, with pretrial conferences scheduled for March 29th and April 2nd.
Blaine, Ky – Deputies trying to serve an arrest warrant on a Lawrence County man ended up arresting his girlfriend too. They went to a home on Route 201 looking for 45-year-old Christopher Eric Sons, wanted on charges of fleeing police and wanton endangerment. Deputies say Sons’ girlfriend, 46-year-old Callee West, claimed he was gone, but they found him hiding in a basement clothing rack. West is accused of hindering prosecution and kicking a deputy. Both are being held at Big Sandy Regional Detention Center in Paintsville.
Harold, Ky – A Floyd County couple is charged with child endangerment after deputies say two young children were found living in unacceptable conditions. Deputy Kevin Thacker wrote that during a Jan. 8 welfare check at the Harold home of 27-year-old Colby Conway and 24-year-old April Conway, he and social workers found animal feces throughout the house, food embedded in the floor, overflowing garbage, piles of clothing and exits blocked by clutter. The warrant also says the two- and six-year-old children were lying unclothed on bare mattresses, with drug paraphernalia within their reach. Both Colby and April Conway were taken to the Floyd County Detention Center, charged with misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a minor.
Coal Run, Ky – A Pike County woman is facing multiple drug and theft charges after officers say she was caught shoplifting while carrying suspected fentanyl at a Coal Run store. On Jan. 10, Rural King staff reported an intoxicated woman, and troopers say they found 34-year-old Devona Williamson of Mudlick Road, Hardy, trying to check out. An arrest citation says she showed signs of impairment and had about 40 dollars in unpaid merchandise, along with baggies, scales, pipes, gabapentin pills and suspected fentanyl. Williamson was taken to the Pike County Detention Center on trafficking, drug possession, theft and public intoxication charges.
