Ashland, Ky – Ashland and Boyd County officials say a shooting threat against two middle schools Friday was linked to an out-of-state “swatting” call. Police say a man called the Ashland Water Treatment Plant claiming he would get a gun and go to Boyd County Middle School and Ashland Middle School, triggering a coordinated response by Ashland Police and the Boyd County Sheriff’s Office, with school resource officers already on both campuses. Investigators say the number matched a similar “swatting” report in Texas on Jan. 7, and there have been no credible threats, though extra officers stayed at the schools as the case remains under investigation.

Magoffin County, Ky – The Magoffin County Sheriff’s Office says an armed suspect who barricaded himself in the Mash Fork area has now surrendered to a special response team and is in custody. Law enforcement originally responded when deputies tried to serve a burglary warrant and the suspect refused to come out, prompting a large police presence and multiple first responders in the area. Residents and drivers were urged to stay clear of the Mash Fork area.

Perry County, Ky – Kentucky State Police say a Perry County man is facing DUI and other charges after a three‑vehicle crash Sunday, Jan. 11, on Cornett Hill Drive near Christopher Road. Troopers say 26‑year‑old Jakob Sizemore was allegedly under the influence when he tried to pass another vehicle, then swerved back into his lane and hit both that vehicle and an oncoming car before stopping at a nearby church. Officials say Sizemore later walked back to the scene, where troopers reported smelling alcohol on him; he was arrested for DUI and taken to the Kentucky River Regional Jail, and three people were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.
