Morgan County, Ky – An inmate has died after a fall at the Eastern Kentucky Correctional Complex in Morgan County. Officials say 56‑year‑old Marvin Knuckles was clearing ice and snow with a work crew at the West Liberty prison when he fell and suffered a severe head injury. He was taken to Morgan County ARH, where he was pronounced dead around 7:30 a.m. The Justice and Public Safety Cabinet calls it a tragic accident and says it will conduct a thorough review to help prevent similar incidents. Knuckles was serving a sentence out of Madison County.

Johnson County, Ky – Several people were indicted by a Johnson County grand jury on January 16, including two men charged in separate child sexual abuse cases. Aaron Jones, 41, of Jenny’s Creek Road in Hager Hill, is charged with first-degree sexual abuse of a child under 12 for an incident in 2023, and with promoting a sexual performance by a minor under 16 for allegedly producing or promoting a performance involving sexual conduct by the victim the same day. In a separate case, 26-year-old Joseph P. Mollett of U.S. 60 West in Morehead is charged with first-degree sexual abuse of a child under 12 for an alleged incident in 2022.

Frankfort, Ky – Kentucky Power is asking state regulators for permission to raise electric rates on a temporary basis if its current rate case is not decided by March 1. The utility has told the Kentucky Public Service Commission it may need interim rates while the review continues, with any increase subject to refund if final rates are lower. The company says it prefers to use lower rates from a proposed settlement that would increase revenue by about 52 million dollars a year, instead of the nearly 96 million originally requested, and the Attorney General’s Office says that settlement would add less than 5 dollars a month for the average residential customer. Kentucky Power argues customers in its territory are especially sensitive to rate hikes, and that using the lower settlement rates would soften the impact if temporary rates were needed.

Warfield, Ky – A Kenton County man is facing domestic violence charges after an arrest Tuesday morning at a Warfield apartment complex. Kentucky State Police say troopers from Post 9 in Pikeville arrested 21-year-old Elijah Bailey of Covington around 7:55 a.m. at Riverside Apartments on charges of fourth-degree assault, domestic violence with minor injury, and second-degree strangulation. Investigators say the victim told them she and Bailey, her boyfriend, had been drinking when an argument turned physical and he choked her and hit her in the mouth. She went to her grandmother’s apartment, where 911 was called. The trooper reported she had visible injuries but declined medical treatment, and that Bailey admitted striking her but showed no injuries himself.
