Floyd County, Ky – Floyd County deputies say a domestic violence call early Sunday led to the arrest of a Floyd County man on assault and DUI charges. Deputies say Justin Ryan Lewis assaulted his mother, then drove away before being stopped nearby, where he showed signs of impairment. EMS reported the victim may have suffered serious injuries, including a possible broken jaw. Lewis was taken to the Floyd County Detention Center and charged with second-degree assault, first-degree DUI, third-degree terroristic threatening, and failure to wear a seat belt.

Magoffin County, Ky – A Magoffin County man has been sentenced to prison for using electronic means to target a minor. Twenty‑nine‑year‑old Cory Slusher admitted using electronics to procure a minor after a Magoffin County Sheriff’s Department investigation that began in May 2024 and led to a grand jury indictment. Deputies say Slusher tried to flee to Ohio before he was arrested with help from the U.S. Marshals and lodged in the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center. He was sentenced March 19 to five years in prison and must register as a sex offender.

Pikeville, Ky – A hearing in the Amber Spradlin murder case that had been set for last Friday was abruptly canceled that morning, leaving questions about why it was called off. Now, a new court order explains what happened and sets a new date. Special Judge Eddy Coleman wrote that he was forced to cancel after being injured in a fall, an injury that will require surgery scheduled for Tuesday. The hearing is now reset for 10 a.m. on April 23 in Pike Circuit Court.

Pikeville, Ky – A Pike County man is facing a felony assault charge after allegedly shooting another man during a property dispute. On April 6, Kentucky State Police were notified that a man had arrived at Pikeville Medical Center with a gunshot wound to his left foot and ankle. The victim told troopers he was weed‑eating on his property on Ripley Branch in Shelbiana when 83‑year‑old Franklin Kendrick came out of his home, argued with him, and then shot him as he stood near his vehicle. Troopers say Kendrick did not give a statement, but a Springfield Armory 1911 .45‑caliber handgun believed to be used in the incident was recovered from his residence. Kendrick was lodged in the Pike County Detention Center and charged with first‑degree assault.
