Magoffin County, Ky – A Magoffin County man is in custody after what deputies describe as a shooting inside a home in the Falcon community of Magoffin County. On April 9, the Magoffin County Sheriff’s Office, with help from Kentucky State Police, arrested 24‑year‑old Trenton Caudill. Deputies say it stems from an April 8 incident where Caudill allegedly fired about 11 rounds through a closed door while two people were inside the residence, grazing one man in the arm. Caudill is charged with second‑degree assault and first‑degree wanton endangerment.
Pike County, Ky – Appalachian Regional Healthcare is suing Pike County, saying the county owes more than three‑point‑two million dollars for medical care for indigent inmates at the Pike County Detention Center. The complaint filed December 18, 2025, in Pike Circuit Court, says ARH provided necessary treatment to inmates who could not pay and lists Judge‑Executive Ray Jones and Jailer Brian Morris in their official roles. ARH alleges Kentucky law makes the county responsible for those costs and claims the unpaid balance is more than three‑point‑two million dollars, not including interest and fees.
Martin County, Ky – A Martin County man has agreed to plead guilty to a federal gun charge in exchange for having drug charges dropped. Sixty‑one‑year‑old Jimmy Cornett of Tomahawk had faced two counts of distributing meth and two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He pleaded guilty Tuesday in Lexington federal court to one gun charge and admitted selling meth to an undercover informant twice last May and selling a shotgun to that informant on the second deal. Cornett, who was convicted of similar charges in 2010, faces up to 15 years in prison when he’s sentenced July 9.
Pike County, Ky – A Pike County man is facing charges after police say he exposed himself to a woman and her minor daughter at the Pikeville Goodwill on Wednesday. Officers were called to the store around 4:30 p.m., after the woman reported a man had exposed himself and then left in a white pickup truck. Around the same time, police responded to a fight in the parking lot of the nearby Lowe’s and found 48‑year‑old Chad Hopkins of Shelbiana sitting in a white pickup matching the description. Police say Hopkins admitted he had been at Goodwill and exposed himself to two females, and officers also reviewed store video of the incident. Hopkins was arrested and charged with first‑degree indecent exposure, first offense, a misdemeanor punishable by up to 90 days in jail.
