Floyd County, Ky – The Floyd County Coroner’s Office has identified human remains discovered Tuesday in the Prestonsburg area as a woman who had been missing since March. Deputy Coroner Chuck Hall said that medical examiners confirmed the remains are those of Kayla Reffett, who had been missing since March 30. Officials say no additional details are being released at this time, as the investigation remains ongoing by Kentucky State Police.

Letcher County, Ky – According to the Letcher County Sheriff’s Office, a Jenkins man has been arrested on animal cruelty charges after a reported dog shooting. Police say a call came in around 10 p.m. April 21 from Rocky Hollow. Jenkins Police Sergeant Josh Richardson investigated, collecting video evidence and witness statements before presenting the case to the County Attorney. Later that evening, Sgt. Richardson and deputies conducted a traffic stop on Main Street in Jenkins, where the suspect, Johnny Tinnel, was taken into custody. Tinnel is charged with animal cruelty and wanton endangerment, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Pike County, Ky – A Pike County man is facing multiple charges after allegedly pointing a gun at another man during a dispute while children and adults were nearby. Police say they responded April 14 to Woodman Creek Road in Majestic, where a man reported his nephew, 50-year-old Paul Daniels, threatened him with a gun during an argument over a tractor. Witnesses told officers at least four people — including a 2- and 5-year-old were behind the victim at the time, putting them at risk. Daniels told police he never intended to harm anyone and claimed the gun was pointed downward, adding he has had issues with blood sugar affecting his behavior. He was arrested on charges including first- and second-degree wanton endangerment and terroristic threatening.

Pike County, Ky – Efforts by Pikeville Police Department and a U.S. Marshals Task Force to locate an Ohio fugitive led to multiple arrests and a large drug seizure. Officers went to an apartment on Hambley Boulevard April 14 looking for 51-year-old Dennis Washington of Columbus, who was wanted on drug charges. He was found inside and taken into custody. During the arrest, police spotted drug paraphernalia and obtained a search warrant. Inside, they say they found large amounts of meth, fentanyl, crack cocaine, and oxycodone. Washington, along with Daryl Adkins of Pikeville and Lashawn Walker of Columbus, were arrested on multiple trafficking and drug charges. Adkins also faces additional charges for hindering prosecution. All three remain in the Pike County Jail.
