Floyd County, Ky – Prestonsburg Police say several people were hurt last week in a crash at the Prestonsburg Senior Citizens Center. According to Chief Ross Shurtleff, it happened April 24 as an elderly woman was backing out of a parking spot when she slowed, stopped, then suddenly accelerated, hitting another elderly woman and dragging her about 25 feet before crashing into the building. After hitting the building, police said the car then struck a bench under a canopy where two other elderly people were sitting, and they suffered moderate injuries. The woman who was dragged was flown to Pikeville Medical Center for treatment. The case remains under investigation by Officer J.T. Layne and Lt. Jeremiah Watson.

Pikeville, Ky – A Pikeville man is facing multiple charges, including child endangerment, after what police call a domestic incident. Pikeville Officer Patrick Coleman says officers were called April 24 to a home on Williams Hollow Road, where 24‑year‑old Jonathan Meloy of Third Street had reportedly pulled a knife and slashed a tire. Coleman says Meloy shoved an adult in the chest and pulled the knife in a threatening way toward a juvenile. Meloy was taken to the Pike County Detention Center on assault, menacing, criminal mischief and child endangerment charges.

Pikeville, Ky – Kentucky State Police are asking for help finding a missing West Virginia woman. Bariah Cooley of Summersville was last seen April 22nd walking along U.S. 119 near the 7/11 gas station toward Pikeville. She’s 5-foot-4, 180 pounds, and was wearing a Batman shirt with blue basketball shorts. If you have information, call the Pikeville KSP post at 606-433-7711.

Pike County, Ky – Three men charged in connection with a Pike County murder were sentenced last week. Michael Brown received 25 years in prison. Anthony Browning got five years, and Michael Shortridge was sentenced to three years. Brown and Browning pleaded guilty in March. Shortridge entered a guilty plea after having a charge amended. The men were arrested following the shooting death of Christopher Lester in the Steele community in January 2025
