Floyd County, Ky – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 12 will begin paint striping operations across multiple counties to improve roadway visibility and safety. The schedule is: Pike County May 10th through 30th, Martin County May 31st through June 6th, Lawrence County June 7th through 20th, Johnson County June 21st through July 4th, Floyd County July 5th through 18th, Knott County July 19th through August 1st, and Letcher County August 2nd through 14th.Work runs 7 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Expect delays and use caution in work zones.

Frankfort, Ky – Kentucky is one of the first states using new technology to help connect children in foster care with family members. The Department of Community Based Services has partnered with Binti to launch a Family Finding tool statewide. The platform helps caseworkers identify kinship caregivers in real time. Since launching, the tool has helped identify more than 150,000 connections for children. Ninety-three percent of children with open searches have confirmed kin connections. Research shows kinship placement leads to better outcomes by reducing trauma and providing more stability than traditional foster care.

Pikeville, Ky – A Pikeville man was arrested early Tuesday morning after police say he led them on a chase through downtown Pikeville while under the influence in a stolen car. Jacob Wilson, 18, tried to flee when he saw a police cruiser, speeding down Pike Street, running stop signs, and driving the wrong way on Main Street before crashing into a concrete post. Wilson then ran on foot before officers caught him on Cumberland Court. Police say Wilson showed signs of intoxication and was driving a stolen Malibu on a permit. He faces multiple charges including DUI, fleeing police, and criminal mischief.

Floyd County, Ky – Floyd County Schools has announced the death of sixth grader Diesel Miller, a student at Allen Elementary School who previously attended May Valley Elementary. School counselors and support staff will be available at both schools to support students and staff. The district is encouraging families to talk with their children and to reach out if additional help is needed. In a statement, the district called the loss “heartbreaking beyond words” and said their thoughts and prayers are with Diesel’s family, friends, and the entire school community.
