Pike County, Ky – A Stopover woman is facing multiple charges, including drug trafficking, after an incident on May 2. Court records say Kentucky State Police were called about a woman passed out in a vehicle on Hurricane Creek. When troopers arrived, they said 43-year-old Corina Hurley took off and hit a cruiser with her pickup, then ran, but was arrested after a short foot chase. Troopers report finding a large bag of white powder, scales, drug paraphernalia and burnt foil inside the truck. Hurley was lodged in the Pike County Detention Center, where she remained as of press time.
Frankfort, Ky – Gov. Andy Beshear is taking temporary steps to cut Kentucky’s gas tax as prices continue to climb. He’s freezing a scheduled state gas tax increase set for July 1 and issuing an emergency order to cut the state gas tax by 10 cents a gallon on regular and diesel fuel. Attorney General Russell Coleman says he will sign off on the order, which will take effect by May 11th. Beshear is also asking Congress to suspend the federal gas tax for the rest of the year, which would save drivers about 18 cents a gallon.
Frankfort, Ky – The Kentucky Board of Nursing is warning about scam calls that appear to come from official agency numbers. The caller tells nurses their license is under investigation, or they missed a court date and may use details like old addresses or license numbers to sound convincing. The Board says it never opens investigations by phone and instead sends a written notice. Anyone getting a suspicious call is urged not to share information, hang up, and then contact the Kentucky Board of Nursing directly at 502-429-3300 to confirm whether their license is under investigation.
Floyd County, Ky – A McDowell man is in jail after deputies say he fled a traffic safety checkpoint and was caught with methamphetamine. Deputies say on May 4, a red car suddenly turned off near a checkpoint on Magnolia Street without signaling and then stopped when officers turned on their lights. A long‑haired man reportedly ran from the car into the woods, K9 Bear allegedly alerted to drugs in the vehicle and then tracked the suspect. Inside the car, officers say they found a phone and cards with the name Dalton Boone Frasure, 29, along with three baggies of a crystal‑like substance believed to be meth. Frasure, who had an active warrant, was later found at a relative’s home with fresh scratches and a phone message saying he had ditched the car and gotten away from the “popo.” He was lodged in the Floyd County Detention Center on fleeing, meth trafficking, and traffic charges.
