Johnson County, Ky – Two Magoffin County residents are jailed after a reported home burglary in Johnson County. Deputies say 45‑year‑old Adam Allen Caldwell and 48‑year‑old Tonya Lynn Rowe of Salyersville were caught at a Tackett Branch home in Staffordsville. The homeowner told deputies the pair entered his house and loaded several thousand dollars’ worth of property into a pickup, and that he had video. Deputies say they recovered multiple stolen items and charged both with burglary, theft and related offenses.

Pikeville, Ky – The Kentucky Public Protection Cabinet will host a Pikeville Scam Jam and Shredding Day on May 14 to raise awareness about scams and how to spot them. The free event runs from 9 to 2 on the seventh floor of the UPIKE Health Professions Education Building, and lunch is provided. Partners including AARP, the Attorney General’s Office, the FBI and Secret Service will cover identity theft, investment fraud, cybercrime and mail fraud, and a secure shredding truck will offer free community document shredding.

Fort Gay, Wv – A 21-year-old Louisa, Kentucky, man was killed Monday in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Route 52 near Cedar Heights Road in Fort Gay, West Virginia. State police say a northbound Toyota RAV4, driven by Braden N. Murry, crossed the centerline and hit a tractor-trailer head-on. Murry was pronounced dead at the scene. The truck driver, 42-year-old Christopher Keesee of Louisa, was not injured. Troopers say the crash remains under investigation, and next of kin has been notified.

Magoffin County, Ky – Magoffin County Schools are celebrating a major boost in classroom technology, thanks to an $836,348 grant from the USDA. The money will fund interactive TVs with laptops and soundbars in classrooms and libraries at every school, supporting distance learning and telemedicine. Superintendent Chris Meadows says the equipment will help connect students in this rural district with virtual classes, field trips and collaborations beyond Magoffin County. Students say the new tools will improve projects and presentations and prepare them for future careers.
