Pikeville, Ky – A Pikeville nightclub is facing possible state action after a May 3 shooting inside the business that sent one person to the hospital. Pikeville Alcoholic Beverage Control administrator and city attorney Rusty Davis says he plans to send police reports on Klarissa’s Bar, on North Bypass Road, to the Kentucky Alcoholic Beverage Commission. Records show multiple fights, a DUI call and threatening behavior this year, and 24 police calls between 2023 and 2025. Davis says state law bans loaded guns in bars and requires licensed premises not be disorderly, and he will ask ABC officials in Frankfort to consider revoking Klarissa’s liquor license.
Martin County, Ky – A Martin County man is charged after allegedly staging a UTV theft. Kentucky State Police say 48‑year‑old Larry A. Delong of Tomahawk reported his 2021 Kawasaki SXS stolen May 10, claiming he left to go fishing and returned to find it missing. Neighbors told troopers the UTV hadn’t been at his home for about two weeks, and investigators say Delong later admitted he hid the vehicle behind his property hoping someone would steal or burn it and that he planned to file an insurance claim. Delong was jailed at the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center on charges including fraudulent insurance acts and false reporting.
Prestonsburg, Ky – Prestonsburg officials say a threatening call to Food City on University Drive prompted precautionary school lockdowns. The Floyd County Emergency Communications Center received a blocked call around 2:47 p.m. from a man claiming to be armed — including a pipe bomb — and threatening the store. Investigators say they’ve found no evidence to substantiate the threat, and the call traces to an internet calling provider linked to recent school threats. No injuries were reported.
Paintsville, Ky – Police in Paintsville have charged a man after discovering violations of the state sex‑offender registry. Paintsville officers investigating a separate theft learned that 48‑year‑old Jessie Ward was non‑compliant with the state sex‑offender registry, according to an arrest citation. Court records show Ward is a 20‑year registrant in connection with a conviction for second‑degree rape of a 12‑year‑old. Officers say Ward acknowledged he knew he was non‑compliant but had mailed paperwork to update his information. He’s jailed at the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center on a failure‑to‑comply charge.
