The Letcher Fire and Rescue Ambulance Service is seeking volunteers. WYMT reports the fire department is looking for volunteers after responding to a fire Friday on Gander Drive in Letcher County. The fear of increased response time to fires is the main reason behind seeking assistance. Lieutenant Chris Sexton understands the economy has had a significant impact as families are working more and have less time to help volunteer. As many volunteer firefighters also work full time jobs, less manpower is available during the early morning and daylight hours.
