Federal Trial of Paintsville Mayor Begins

WYMT reports the federal trial against Paintsville Mayor Bob Porter began Wednesday in London. Porter is charged with theft of government property. Prosecutors gave their opening statements, saying Porter used his position of authority to receive benefits he was not entitled to. The theft of government property charge comes from various incidents throughout the mayor’s ten years of service, such as neglecting to pay water and sewer bills, driving a Cadillac Escalade seized in a drug bust, and sending personal packages using the City of Paintsville’s UPS account. Porter is expected back in court today.
