Lawrence County Man Dies After Arrest

In Lawrence County an investigation is underway in the death of 56 year old Bill Collins. The incident began on Friday when an officer attending the Lawrence County High School graduation in Louisa witnessed a car leave the roadway. Collins was driving the vehicle and when the officer approached him, Collins began to verbally assault the officer. He was arrested and taken to the Louisa Police Department where he then locked himself in a room. Collins was tased through a crack in the door, but he removed the taser from his body. Collins was then hit a second time and officers struggled to subdue him. It then became clear he was in need of medical assistance and was taken to Three Rivers Medical Center where he died. Police are investigating the incident but said it does not appear any of the officers did anything criminal. An autopsy of Bill Collins is now pending.
