Drug use among miners on the rise

While drug abuse is a rampant problem in Eastern Kentucky a new study shows it is constantly increasing among miners. According to Director Eugene White of the office of mine health, safety and training more than 800 miners have failed drug tests in the last three years, and 214 mining certificates have been suspended. The number one culprit is prescription medication, while marijuana is also a major cause. White also said that 165 people have also failed pre-employment drug screenings.
