Telecheck to Collect Additional Information from Hunters

This season, hunters will be asked to provide additional information during the telecheck process about deer and elk. All deer and elk harvested must be reported to the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources by phone at 1-800-245-4263 or online at fw.ky.gov. Hunters will have to distinguish antlerless male deer from male fawns or as an adult that has shed its antlers. Points measuring 1 inch or longer, on both deer and elk, and whether an antler spread measures less or more than 11 inches will also have to be indicated. If callers do not have the required information during the telecheck, they will be asked to callback to complete the process and receive a confirmation number.  This new information will be used to help Kentucky Fish and Wildlife biologists to better estimate size and age of the state’s  deer and elk herds.
