U.S. Rep. Ed Whitfield to Resign

From the Associated Press, Republican U.S. Representative Ed Whitfield will resign from office next week. His letter of notice to Governor Matt Bevin gave no reason for the resignation, which will go into effect September 6. Whitfield had announced his retirement last year after coming under investigation from the House Ethics Committee. Whitfield did not seek re-election this year, and, in his letter, he wrote “It has been my honor and privilege to habe represented the constituents of the First District of Kentucky in the United States Congress for the last almost 22 years.”
